Commissioner Service
Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout Ships. Commissioners help maintain the standards of Scouting America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members.
As a unit commissioner, your role is different from that of other Scouters. The insignia you wear displays a wreath around Scouting's trefoil representing your commissioner to serve chartered organizations in the operation of Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout ships. The quality of Scouting depends upon the men and women who wear the wreath of service (Commissioner Fieldbook for Unit Service).
Unit commissioners provide guidance and advice for the packs, troops, crews, or ships they are assigned to serve. If you are interested in serving as a unit commissioner in the Jayhawk Area Council, please contact your district commissioner or district executive.
